East Arvon Quarry

This small slate quarry, whose pit and waste tips are now very overgrown, once supported a community of 150 in the nearby settlement of Rhiwddolion. The quarry produced mainly slate slabs and closed in the early 20th century.

Some lovely light you had there Graham, looks like a machete for clearing away some nature might be a useful tool to take for exploring this place though

Yes, the waste tips – normally a very conspicuous feature of a slate quarry – were hard to spot there, so overgrown is the place.

Thanks Iain. There’s not an awful lot to see at this one. The pit itself is not easily accessible and is very overgrown. The waste tips are also wooded over, so not immediately obvious.
