The estate dates back to the 15th century and the house is the seat of the Marquess of Anglesey. The first Marquess, Henry William Paget (1768-1854) was second in command under Wellington in the Battle of Waterloo (1815). The house was built by the father of the first Marquess, the first Earl of Uxbridge, and is the work of architect James Wyatt. The house is owned by the National Trust and a part of it is still occupied by the seventh Marquess.
