The south-western aspect of Elidir Fawr, above the lake Llyn Peris and the town of Llanberis, is dominated by the sculpted landscape formed by the now quiet galleries of Dinorwic Quarry. Commercial quarrying of slate started there in 1787 and production continued until the business closed in 1969…

I love the ‘motor-driven compressor’ #1, too. I mean, I like ALL of them, but those just call to me.

These are fabulously evocative shots. The motor driven compressor no 1 looks like it has come from appearing in a performance of Wagner’s Ring. A wonderful set.

A lovely study of this place graham. It’s on my to-do list for this year, I simply ran out of time when I last went. You could spend weeks exploring Dinorwic……
