Information

Born in the Borders is a real-ale microbrewery founded in 2011 as the Scottish Borders Brewery. It is located in a £500,000 visitor centre, which was built in 2014 from converted farm buildings and which also features two shops and a café/restaurant. The brewery is owned by John Henderson, who also owns the Cross Keys Inn in the nearby village of Ancrum. Local water is used in the production of the ales and the barley used comes from the surrounding fields.

  1. This all looks very interesting…great docu-photos as always. I have been building a model of a brewery for a customer and am struck by how the essentials are still there in your photos, but in smaller quantities and all so much more clean and tidy! A fascinating set, and I will have to look out for that beer!

  2. I was impressed with how immaculate the place looks too; it reminds me of a sake brewery I looked around in Japan, similar structure and layout. Your images echo the theme, strong, clean and simple. Was the ale good?
