  1. I don’t know if it was your intention, but in my eyes you’ve captured the monotonous repetition of the supermarket shopping experience. It’s like Fordist mass production for the retail environment.

    • Many thanks for the insight, Andy. I’d been wanting to photograph the car park for quite some time (especially the covered walkway), but wanted to do so with a sense of desolation – not easy though when the store has 24 hour opening. So I had to wait until Easter Sunday.

  2. You’ve given something mundane a lease of beauty here. The milky focus on the trolley shots is fabulous. I’ve always wanted to do a study of a supermarket interior, but that is fraught with difficulties.

  3. The legend of Steely Bar goes like this. In a small town in North Wales there lived a tribe of trolls and Steely had special gifts. His wheels had ball bearings and he liked not only four wheelung but exploring beyond rows of Cocopuffs. One day he saw his moment afyer being left by the side of the road and not placed back in the queue. Tarmac
at the best of times is slippery and parked on an incline he managed to slip away towards the forest. Steely was so excited to be free at last but terrified of being reported and possibly condemed. In the distance he saw a man approach with some electronic twirling object that was focusing on his rib cage. Steely watched him kneeling, then standing behind this tube like object that periodically clicked. He could tell he saw Steely’s predicament and appreciated his angle but would he help Steely rejoin his tribe again and maybe not be placed at the back of the queue? Ahhh yes he approached and pushed him back towards his home under cover with this object strapped across his chest and black box hanging down. What was that Steely wondered? He kept clicking and pointing at other members of the tribe and then just walked away looking at the back of this black box.

  4. somehow you made Tesco look so fabulous! NOW – – -I also did a post on the grocery store (but more just how to buy the groceries….you might recall) and I too took some pics of the parking lot and the carts…but somehow…and I am not sure why…your pics look different! Ha, ha, ha…..great post Graham…

  5. It is enlivening that you found so many fine details of a boring place like a supermarket. Not least the first photo is fine composed with nice dof
