Information
The 6m sculpture of a sword was installed in a car park on the bank of Llyn Padarn in Llanberis in November 2017. The artwork was erected at a cost of £14,000 as part of the Year of Legends tourism campaign in Wales and is said to be symbolic of the princes of Gwynedd. The sculpture has met with a mixed reception locally.
How interesting. Was cost the reason for the mixed reviews?

According to local reports, it is more a matter of its location. Apparently there were complaints that it wasn’t sited closer to Dolbadarn Castle. Although nicely next to the lake, it is located in a car park right next to a pay-and-display ticket machine.

Oh dear – next to the ticket machine! I’d like to see it. I’ve never been to that part of Wales, so thanks for the heads up. It’s added to the list!

Nice photos of it, though it looks quite a plain Sword, I would have thought the Prince’s swords would be more ornate.

Thanks, fraggle. Apparently, advice was sought as to the type of sword that would have been used back then. I dunno, I quite like the stylised minimalism of it.

Interesting! Certainly a statement piece and art is supposed to be controversial, so probably fair to say it fits the brief. You don’t say what you thought of it yourself…?

I liked it! Nice stylised, clean lines to photograph against a clear blue sky. What’s not to like?
