It looks very, very cold and the horses seem well-suited to their environment. I love the closeups of them. Also the rusty gate on an angle. Is this location fairly high up?
Yes, I should imagine those Welsh mountain ponies are well adapted by now. Mr Inquisitive Pony kept coming in for extreme close-ups (too close to focus actually). This series was taken between around 250 to 300 m ASL.
It’s really quite variable. Some winters we have no snow at all – maybe a light dusting on the tops. Other times we get more. This winter I think we’ve had three snowy spells, but it didn’t stick around that long really. A few days perhaps, sometimes up to a week. But yeah, it does remain a little longer in that higher up area. Last time though it all disappeared after a couple of days after some heavy rain and temperatures “way up” at 10 C.
I didn’t realize this is close to where you live. I mean, I know Wales isn’t a huge place, but…showing my ignorance here. What you describe seems to be what’s happening everywhere these days – more weather variability. The first three photos above have the look of a place that’s always cold. Put together with the furry friends, I assumed it was colder or higher than it is. Thanks for explaining!
These are beautiful pictures – every one of them!

Welsh mountain ponies, OK. Would that area stay snowy for the rest of the winter or might it melt and then show again later?

Haha, yes that was just up the road from the house – the fields start two streets up from me. Here is the same area is warmer conditions:

And some views from the tops in the summer:
