The 60 metre tall Wheel of Liverpool was opened in 2010 by Great City Attractions at a cost of £6 million. The transportable observation wheel has 42 enclosed, eight-passenger gondolas and was initially only intended to remain in its waterfront location for 12 months. Following the liquidation of Great City Attractions in 2012, the wheel was purchased by Dubai-based Freij Entertainment International.
