Information

The main adit at Rhosydd Quarry, on level 9, led to all the working levels in the slate mine via internal inclines. Slate wagons were drawn along a track in the adit using a haulage system powered by a water wheel.

Your underground photography is very good indeed. You strike just the right balance between making things visible, yet conveying the unique sense of mystery and danger by not illuminating too much. I’d be very interested to know how you achieved these results, since my 9 adit shots were hopeless.
The mine fungus is interesting, something we’ve often seen and not found an answer to. Great post, Graham.

The fungus is produced by rotting wood. It is produced by the starch content in the wood.
